Aquawrap® is a factory-wetted fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite system. This system cures on contact with water, either from air humidity or applied moisture. It even cures under water.
Furnished resin-wetted and uncured, in rolls, (see photo, right) Aquawrap® ships to the field inside hermetically sealed metallized pouches.
To use the product, you just tear open the pouch and start wrapping or laying up onto the surface to be repaired or encapsulated.
Initial hardening happens in about an hour, with substantial strength in a couple of hours.
Aquawrap® is a serious composite product. It may look similar to some weak products that flooded the market over the years, but testing shows (and field installations have proven) that our product is unique -- and incredibly strong.
Aquawrap® comes in "tear open" packaging ready to be applied to your pipeline. More customizable prepared kits or products are available with desired performance characteristics or properties. PowerWrap will help you choose the right product to suit your needs. Our Aquawrap® water activated prepreg wrap is the most common product used. Different fabric weaves can be used in circumstances where dents or T's might need wrapping.
Aquawrap® Composites are marketed by Powerwrap, LP and can be installed easily on straight pipe, elbows, tees, offshore risers, underwater, flange reducers, and used on saddle repairs for crevice corrosion and dent gouges. It can be installed on all specified pipelines including API-SL, ASTM and AWWA.
The standard Aquawrap® system features include:
- Economical material cost
- DOT compliant
- Similar to steel in strength properties - fiber reinforced polymer (FRP)
- Repairs allow pipeline to be returned to 100% of its maximum allowable operating pressure
- Excellent toughness, resists cracks
- Easy & fast to install in hours with minimal OQ training
- Fiber oriented in both hoop & transverse directions to take load off the defect
- Cures with normal water, no special additives needed
- Quick working cure allows back fill of dig within 2 hours
- No welding or lifting equipment required
- Polyurethane based - resistant to corrosion
- Non-hazardous shipping, odorless and non-flammable no VOC's
- Certified to ANSI/NSF 61
- Can be installed without pipe shutdown
- Able to wrap around keys, elbows and T's
- Able to be installed underwater
- Does not require anything to be applied between layers other than a soak/spray of water
- Bonds to many surfaces
- Available for any diameter size and many different widths
- Material can be wrapped in a helical pattern or straight around circumference
- Can be stored up to 12 months
Special Applications for Aquawrap®
While Aquawrap® is intended for pipeline repair, Aquawrap® can be used in a number of ways. If you might have use for an easily installed high-strength wrap, we might be able to help you. Among the kinds of applications Aquawrap® has been used for are:
- Pipe Wrapping (as corrosion barrier)
- Pipe Wrapping (as pressure rating boost)
- Pipe (for dent and gouge repair)
- Pipe wrapping at supports (protects coating from abrasion at hangers & supports)
- Bridge Column Wrapping (as weather barrier)
- Bridge Column Wrapping (structural reinforcement)
- Highway Sign Structures (aluminum truss weld repairs)
- Utility Pole Wrapping (reinforcement after structural damage)
- Beam Encasement (environmental protection)
- Beam Encasement (structural reinforcement)
- Pressure Vessel Encapsulation (rehabilitating corroded vessel to max operating pressure)
- Leak Sealing Reinforcement
- Sealant Enclosure
- Piers & Pilings (splash zone)
- Pilings & Structures (underwater)
- Steel tank lid repair (flat surface repair)

Aquawrap® cures as a solid uniform mass. Other systems cure but the layers are still apparent, therefore disbonding is more likely to occur if moisture or other substances seep in between the layers. To see our wraps up-close click here.
